About the event
OPENLY is a photo-book collaboration between visual artist Guntaj Deep Singh and writer Roshni Riar that takes readers into the quiet, intricate interiors of queer immigrant lives of South Asians. The book dwells on romantic dreams, melancholic rebellions, and tiny acts of love that refuse to be silenced.
Guntaj spent five years photographing members of Vancouver's diasporic gay community in unfiltered, intimate, and unafraid moments. Roshni's poetry blends power and softness into these pictures, investigating into ancestral memory, bodily autonomy, and the inherited tensions between migration and identity.
This event will include a screening of the book's short video presentation, followed by an extensive interview with the artists.
