Best Of The Year

Story of the Month

By Stawb Bose Sarkar

This series emerged unexpectedly during my visit to the Vijayanagara ruins in Hampi. Just after a heavy rainfall, the mighty Tungabhadra River overflowed, creating a unique backdrop for exploration. I set out to capture the everyday life along the river—people’s routines interspersed with moments of joy and spontaneity. This experience taught me the beauty of embracing the unexpected and transforming it into something truly special.

I'm always interested in the edge of a photograph. Everything it is trying to say without us having to see it. For me, these images are prompts into worlds that extend beyond the frame - What if? Could it be? Was it? Will it ever be?

Photography often reveals our inner landscapes. Here's a selection of eight women photographers whose work I immensely admire for how they've been quietly pushing the boundary of image-making through their own, distinctly unique voice.
